Chatham County has recently taken over billing for fire protection services. Here is a link to the County website describing this issue.

The Fire Chief advises that open burning is prohibited in residential subdivisions in Chatham County, unless a burn permit has been obtained from the Georgia Forestry Commission and Chatham County Department of Building & Regulatory Services or Southside Fire Department.  Reference: Chatham County Code §21-306 Open Burning Regulated (Amended December 5, 2003).
